SAMIC receives fund and technical supports from Water.org to implement a 3-year WASH Loan Program from March 2016 to March 2019.
“The overall objective of the program is to enhance the accessibility to safe water and sanitation facilities, and to improve the daily lives and wellbeing of low-income Cambodians mainly living in rural through offering WASH loan program in all branches.” In addition, WASH loan program also provides sanitation and hygiene educations to Cambodian rural people.
WASH loan program was piloted in few branches during September-December 2016. WASH loan features and policy, marketing and education materials, and sales strategy were tested to identify areas for improving prior to roll-out to all branches.
By end of the pilot, 147 WASH loans were disbursed to existing and new clients, benefiting 805 Cambodians mainly living in rural areas and well exceeding pilot targets. 3,000 Cambodian rural people were educated on various sanitation and hygiene topics.
Branch staff actively engaged in WASH program activities and are excited to promote the sales of WASH loans contributing to growth and quality of branch loan portfolio objectives, and to achieving social activity objective.
Feedbacks were collected from staff and customers, and areas of improvements were effectively identified. WASH loan program is rolled out and available in all branches of SAMIC from February 2017.
